I was skiing in a day thanks to the greatest instructors. Deb Armstrong was AWESOME, how lucky was I? An Olympic Gold Medalist taught me to ski. Sweet. Holla.

I cannot say enough about the Steamboat Ski and Snowboard School!! I hadn't skied in 15 years, so I was VERY nervous to try again. Initially I balked at the $200 price, but after going through it, I think it was worth every penny!! I went the first day and had Teri as my instructor. She was phenomenal! She was so nice, very patient and so encouraging! But, I had an issue with my boots that by the time I got it taken care of, I had missed too much of the lesson, so I decided to try again the next day (I was bummed that I wouldn't have Teri as my instructor though). The next day I had Melissa as my instructor- she was awesome!! She, like Teri, was so nice, patient and encouraging! Both classes were really small- only 3 others on the first day and only 2 others on the second- so everyone got tons of attention and they would go over things as often as we needed. And, Melissa, while being super nice, also made me get back on the horse after I had a nasty fall and I ended up being really grateful for it!! Since, I have gone skiing on my own and employed everything they taught me- it really helped me feel confident! I would HIGHLY encourage anyone thinking about taking a lesson to go to Steamboat- having the small class size really helped me, and even if you aren't a novice like myself, they offer many levels to appeal to any experience level.

FILI was the best! None of us had ever touched a ski before, and in 3 days we were on trails and exploring the area! Fili was personable and knowledgeable. I would recommend him to anyone learning to ski. He put up with our southern, tennessean antics and for that, I thank him! What a gentleman!

I'll start off by saying that I'm 32 and female. I'm rather clumsy and not athletically inclined, but I've always wanted to learn how to snowboard. I was in an off-road accident that broke my femur and rearranged my internal organs, so I'm pretty much terrified of everything now. However, I was determined to at least give it a shot. I did the Never Ever half day clinic (1pm - 3:30 pm) and the instructor was Donnie. I lucked out that there was just myself and another woman around my age in the clinic, so we got more hands-on time. He clearly explained technique. We learned how to skate, glide, stop, J-turn, and C-turn. My fear of crashing into someone else prevented me from letting go of Donnie's hand throughout the entire lesson, but he was extremely patient and positive, and he really eased my anxiety. I had such a great first experience that I just had to try it again. I signed up for another half day clinic for the am. This time my instructor was D.J. We worked on refining the techniques that I had previously learned. The freshly groomed snow made for an easier start since it wasn't as slick and icey as in the afternoons. He gave additional tips and demonstrations that were super easy to follow and understand (execution was a different story, as I reeeeally had to focus on my body awareness). I learned how to start from both heel side and toe side positions, traverse and link turns to perform S-carves. Then he put some confidence in me and decided to take me up the Rodeo, which is a short green run. D.J. showed me how to get on and off the lift, which is super easy. He was kind enough to hold onto me the whole way down the mountain, as I was getting a bit panicked as I picked up speed. There were times where I would let go for a bit, and when I fell he was right there to rescue me. He was very encouraging and kept me pumped to keep going. By the time my lesson was over, I was ready to sign up for an afternoon sesh as I felt like I wanted the comfort of a skilled rider with me to continue tackling the mountain. I am happy to report that I have a found a passion for snowboarding. My lack of athleticism and my nerves make me a bit of a slow learner, but taking lessons was the best decision I ever made. If you are like me, I would recommend full day clinics or private lessons if you can afford it. I will be saving my pennies so I can go back to take private lessons with either Donnie or D.J., although I am confident that any of their instructors would provide a satisfying experience. I also think it's not a bad idea to try various instructors, as they each have there own insights and techniques. Overall I found my experience to be absolutely amazing. Every instructor I interacted with at the school was super friendly and pleasant. My only beef is that the "bunny hill"/ school area is a little bit small for the adult beginner who is fearful of losing control and plowing over the 5 and 6 year-olds. An area with a little more space or separated from the little ones would allow me to be less uptight. P.S. I highly recommend knee pads. I wacked my knees on some hard pack and bruised em up pretty bad.

This was our 3rd or 4th year of semi-private lessons with Gretchen S. at the Steamboat Ski School. While my husband, two friends, and I are solid intermediate+ skiers who ski the whole mountain, Gretchen never fails to fine-tune our skills to the point that we not just CAN ski something, we ski it comfortably! She really is the best and we always leave her care as much better skiers!

The best ski school in North America! Each instructor is nicer than the next! There's certain sports, like skiing, that are best learned when you're young. You know what they say, the cavlierness of youth. Kids learn best when they're not afraid. My children have attended this ski school for three years. They are confident, happy skiiers. I'm amazed at their skill level and how quickly they've improved year to year. I'm especially impressed with my daughter. She's such a girly girl but to watch her zip down the blue/black hills, it leaves me speechless every time. They kids are in school from 8-3. The price includes their lift ticket, lunch and a GPS tracker. A nice feature of the tracker is that at night, you're able to input the code onto a web site and see where your child trekked during the day. Many of the ski instructors were former Olympians from various countries in various sports. Many of their children are on the national ski teams. So, so impressed! It's such a great childhood experience for the kids and piece of mind for the parents. I highly, highly recommend this for your child.

Amazing experience. I, 34yrs old, and my daughter, 5yrs, were both in ski school. I had George Hurley and my daughter was in the KVC. George was phenomenal. In fact next year when we come back to Steamboat, I'm requesting Goerge. I never skied before so I was very nervous. The school was very educational and Goerge hadtons of patience. I and my daughter were skiing greens after the first day. Wonderful experience! Thanks Steamboat.

Our kids had never skied and after 2 days of lessons, they were able to ski easy blues. The instructors were great and gave us good feedback to help keep the kids on the right track. They kept the kids from 9:30 to 3:00 which gave the wife and I some time to explore the mountain. We saw several instructors all over the mountain during our trip and they all seemed to be knowledgeable. I would highly recommend them as instructors.

First I must say a thousand stars for my instructor Jorge Torella! He is THE BEST. I signed up for three full days of group lessons and had Jorge for Days One and Two. I was beyond frightened of skiing and terrified of the lift. He is an amazing teacher and was extremely patient with me. He is a saint! After Day Two, I did try to schedule a one-hour private lesson with him for Day Three, but the representative at the school said the one-hour lessons were for advanced skiers only. By the time I realized that the one-hour lessons were actually for Level Three skiers or better (I was a Level Three by this time), it was too late to schedule with Jorge so I didn't do the private lesson. I still went to my group lesson on Day Three but stayed only an hour as I was not as happy with the instructor. Jorge MADE my first ski trip ever. If I didn't have him as an instructor, I'm not sure I would have made it past Day One. A million thank yous to Jorge!!!
